--- The Wheel Turns ---
You quickly pull out your bow and nock an arrow, and then whistle for Maeslyn, Keb, and Therlin. You pull back on the bow and let an arrow fly at the beast. Even though he's pawing at the frantic man on the ground, your arrow flies true and lands in the beast's flank. He roars in pain, and looks in your direction, leaps over the fallen man, and with graceful speed begins bounding toward you in a zig-zag pattern, running around the west side of the pond.
The other cat further away leaps at the other man by the base of the hill with his sword out and rakes a large gash in his tunic. The man yells and with his large sword swings, tearing open a large wound in the mountain cat.
You realize you have been spotted and so you nock another arrow and let fly, hoping to drop the beast before he gets to you. But with the beast moving at such a terrific speed and quickly changing directions, your shot misses by a few feet. You drop your bow and take out your spear, and wait for the beast to get within range of you to strike.
Another arrow whizzes by from behind you on your left, missing the mountain cat and then another from behind you on your right. You glance and Keb on your left and Therlin on your right both guiding their mounts with their knees. Therlin is apparently riding Maeslyn's horse.
Then the beast is upon you, you feel your spear go into him just as he lunges for you, you manage to stay upright as the force of the impact sense you reeling backward a few feet. And then you feel the massive jaws of the beast bite down hard on your left shoulder. You scream in pain and try to shake the cat loose but he doesn't move and you can feel his hind claws whipping toward you trying to rake open your bowels, but you somehow manage to avoid the sharp claws.
Amid the mass of fur and claw you can hear horses gallop around you and can see Therlin on your right, reloading his crossbow, while Keb turns in her saddle and aims yet another arrow at the sleek animal. You only hope her aim is true; for if she misses with you locked in such close proximity to her quarry, you might be the one taking the arrow.
But her aim is true and another quiver hits the cat. It releases its bite and roars in pain, but instead of rushing blindly at Keb, the beast stays on the foe whose blood it has already tasted.
You bodily shove the beast away from you and then yank out the spear and then jab it into the beast's neck silencing it forever. On the other side of the pond the two warriors converge on the other mountain cat, and with mighty blows of their large swords, end its life.
The two warriors rest for a moment talking to each other in a different accent and then they approach you.
"Worthy friends," the one who was on the ground comes toward you and nods his head, sheathing his sword. "Many thanks for your aid n defeating these beasts. "I am Hurin and this is Vanir." He motions to his friend and then looks about somewhat sheepishly, "We stopped for water and were caught off guard by these cats who probably watch this little pond for prey. We are lucky you happened to stumble upon us."
