--- The Wheel Turns ---
Hoping to do a bit of subterfuge and put a cog in the wheels of Dark One's plan in this area, you shroud your face with your veil and your cloak, and then after waiting a few minutes, you cautiously follow the officer as he makes his way back to camp. Silent as a mouse you creep through the forest closely gaining on the lone officer.
Perhaps a quarter of a mile from the camp, you catch up to him. He doesn't even see the spear coming. With a massive slam of the blunt end of the spear, you send him reeling.
Before he can react, you pin him to the ground with the sharp end of your spear and you hiss to him from the Darkness.
"Don't move worm!" You say trying your best to intimidate the voice you just heard. "You have already failed me! Someone was watching our conversation. And now you must prove your loyalty to the Great Lord of the Dark by following this spy and killing him and whomever follows him."
"My Lord! Surely..."
"Silence!" you growl.
He falls into silence.
"To ensure your loyalty, I shall follow you. Should you fail. I will cut off your legs, and make you watch as I disembowel those who would dare disrupt the all mighty Lord of the Dark and then I will feed you with the entrails of the enemies of the Dark while the Hounds of the Dark feast on his legs."
"I shall obey!" He squeals in fright. His face his pale and you can see him trembling.
"Then, up worm, on your feet!" He subserviently climbs to his feet, his hands trembling. You move to relieve him of his sword.
Suddenly he wheels away from you yanking his sword from his scabbard whirling to face you, his blade at the ready, eyeing you coldly.
"You thought I would march all the way to whatever ruin you had planned, didn't you, my little imposter! I serve only the Dark One and you, do not command such awful majesty!"
Your spear is at the ready. How had it come to this? You could have sworn you had him.
"Guards! The enemy is a foot. To me! To me!" He yells at the top of his lungs and begins backing away toward the camp.
