--- The Wheel Turns ---
"Pick up spears, and attack!" You yell to the villagers. "You two - help the lady! The rest of you! With me!"
You rush forward some fifteen paces, four villagers following behind you. You swing your 'flail' and slam it into the back of a Seanchan soldier, fracturing bones, just as he in turn downs a villager he was fighting. The Seanchan grunts and staggers but turns to face you, his face a mask of pain and anger.
"Die!" He lunges at you, but you leap backwards and his blade cuts through empty space. Two Seanchan stand nearby, one is slowly circling behind you.
The other villagers suddenly arrive, rushing to assist you. "For Tobin's Hollow!" they shout and crash into the Seanchan line using clubs and spears and knives, poor weapons against such battle hardened, and well armored foes.
Soon many villagers are fighting for their lives. The Seanchan move with deadly precision and start to sweep the villagers before them.
Suddenly a small bead of light, bright and angry, darts from one shadowy shape in the behind the Seanchan lines towards a protion of you line.
"Look out!" You shout a warning and villagers dive to the ground, avoiding the worst of the inferno, but the smell of singed and burnt flesh permeates the wet air and the cries of the injured make you think of stories about Sightblinder that your mother used to tell you and his eyes of flame that consumed all.
Yet the villagers fight on, in desperation, hacking at the Seanchan, even as their numbers seem to dwindle.
"By the light, we could use one of those against them!" you grimace towards your attackers.
You only wonder how long you and your brave villagers can hold out against seemingly impossible odds. "Maynard! Where are you?" You wonder. Looking back all you can see is a roiling fog. Even sound seems muted back there.
You hope that Keb is all right, you can see that the two villagers you sent to aid her, are fighting to get past a sole Seanchan soldier who is blocking the opening. You shake your head and look for the enemy channeler. There.
You drop your rope and grapple and whip your bow of your shoulder, quickly nocking an arrow. You take a step away from your combatants and draw the bow taut. With all the shifting bodies fighting between you and her, your shot may not find its mark. You can only hope.
